So, this morning, Friday morning, a group of us went out to one of the snazzy neighbourhoods (The Pearl) for breakfast. So you’re wondering why we aren’t working today? Well, the weekend starts on Friday. And Sunday is the first day of the working week. Over here, Friday morning is a bit like Sunday morning. Everyone is at their mosque and the city is as quiet as can be. So, it was a great time for us to get together. Bev, Josephine, Robin and I took advantage of QGrabs (like Groupon but for Qatar) and had a fantastic Spanish breakfast at Casa Paco in The Pearl for half price!
It was quite the adventure. It was one of those Welcome to Doha moments. First, Josephine and I live in one apartment building but Bev and Robin are in another in a different part of town. We arranged a cab to pick us up and drive us out. Well the cab company was pretty reliable, but the driver really had no idea where our restaurant was. There just are no street addresses around here. So we got dropped off at the entrance area but soon discovered we had a 45 minute walk in 40C heat to our restaurant. We had to call him back. Then WE had to explain to him where we were going, AGAIN. Using Google Maps as our guide! We finally got there, had a fabulous breakfast and then took a walk outside (between air conditioned buildings). I hope you enjoy the pictures of The Pearl.
